Arched Window Treatments Made Easy

If you anything about decorating windows, you know decorating an arched window with window treatments is hard to perfect. It is unlike decorating a regular square or rectangle window, as you do not have a straight rod to mount across the window. The arch at the top of the window makes it difficult to decorate the window, while also letting in as much light as possible. Thus, here are a couple tips you can use to help you decorate you arched windows with the proper window treatment to decorate the window, yet let the light in.

Forget the Arch

The easiest way you can decorate the arched window is to forget the arch entirely. If you are frustrated trying to figure out a way to keep the arch, yet it seems it isn't working well, you might want to consider forgetting the arch. For this to work, you need to make sure you have room on each side of the arched window.

Take a regular curtain rod and mount it above the window. Yes, mount it at the top of the arch. Then, you will want to get drapes to hang the distance from the top of your window to the bottom, or however far down you want to go. Spread the entire curtain across the rod (the drape should hang down and cover the window). Next, take two cuffs and gather each wide of the drape, pulling the middle of the drape towards the outside wall, and cuff the drape in the middle. Now, when you look up, it should look like a square window with light coming through the window and drapes hanging down the side; however, you really only have bare wall behind the upper part of the drapes.

Only Decorate the Lower Window

The second way you can decorate the arched window is by leaving it. An arched window, unless you have an interior design background, is hard to manage. It is such a unique window in the room, and you surely don't want to lose your view of the window hiding it under fabrics and plastics. This is why th second reason involves leaving the window and only decorating the lower window. Hang some curtain or drapes from a rod mounted right beneath the arched window.

Since you did not want to cover the window, I have a better idea. Either have one custom made or try to find one at a store. They are metal, often painted black or brown, and can be mounted to the walls. These are usually welded metal and are formed to specifically have the bottom of the piece is curved to go along the top arch of the arch window, and the bottom forms decorative swirls, twists, and other metal smith decorations. This gives the arched window a much stronger focal point, decorates the window, and still gives the entire amount of light. You can also take the same colored fabric, or an accent color fabric, and wrap it around the upper, outer frame of the window decoration to blend it in with the luxury look.

Hopefully, through these two articles I have generated two ideas for window treatments on arched windows that you will be able to use, instead of getting frustrated trying to perfect an otherwise very difficult project.
