Give Your Bay Windows Effective Window Treatments A small room gives off a cramped and unsatisfied feeling, even if it has a window. The greatest contribution that can be made in this situation is a bay window. A bay window gives depth and an open feeling. Replacing your window with a bay window turns a single, two feet wide windowed room, into a large, 180 degree view of the outside, making the entire room feel brighter and bigger. Once you have created the open feeling, you need to learn to decorate around the open feeling, keeping the windows uncovered. Many people still want to be able to decorate the window to match it with the theme of the room, or to provide an accent for the room. To do this, there are two easy ways. The first way is to put up curtains on each of the windows. There are two ways you can hang curtains on each window. The first way is to put curtains on each of the windows, is by handing curtains down from the top of each window, and pull them to the side of the windows, to create a flowing, open look. You can also choose to use curtains with straight, tailored curtains hung from half-way down the windows. These are hung from mounted curtain rods across the middle of the window. Mount a header piece to complete the window treatment on each window, which should be hung at the top of the each window. For the curtains, try to use light fabric, as the heavier fabrics may be too filling for the window space, and it might take over the window if it is to heavy of a material. The second way to decorate the bay window with window treatments is to not put anything on the windows at all. Instead, you can choose to put a one larger piece to decorate the entire window at once. For this, you can use either heavy or light fabric. A little heavier material is recommended, as it will fluff up and look more filling for what it needs to do. For this second method consists of decorating the inside wall of your house, above the bay window opening of the wall. This will be more like a decorative frame for the window. You can shape the fabric to create a custom header however you want to. The most common way to form the header is to have one main point, gathered and hung dead center above the window about a foot. Hang both the ends of the fabric down the center. Put a nail in the wall at each corner of the opening in the wall for the bay window. This nail should be about 3 inches above, and 2 inches to the right from the corner of the opening in the wall. Hang the fabric on the nail, on each side. If you can’t get it to stay, try duct tape, hot gluing the fabric to the nail, or get some silk yarn from your general fabric store, to tie the corners and the middle up with, and hang the yarn on the nails. With those two ways of putting window treatments on bay windows, you should be able to decorate your bay windows, without ruining your new view.
